WWII Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier Hosho Commemorative Metal Vase. It measures 10 inches tall, has Kanji writing on one side and a Phoenix bird on the other side. Has some rust, but still in great condition and a super rare vase. All our items come from estate sales, yard sales, flea markets or places that we have traveled. All Japanese items come directly from Japan. Feedback will be left once feedback is received. We are a smoke free home, but many of the items were acquired from homes that may have smoked. WWII Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier Commemorative Mortar Rare Collec Vase. Please read the last screenshot for what the inscription of the words are. We still have not found what Japanese warship this is connected, if any as it seems to have been a prize given to a fleet that had accomplished certain maneuverability tasks. Naval Review [Kengaku Shiki] Commemoration. Showa 15 or 11? Year, 10th Month, 29th Day 1940. It looks like it is a naval exercise commemorative piece, not necessarily from a specific warship. It has not been confirmed however after some research it appears that this vase along with other vases for other warships were given as a commemorative prize for excellence in war games and maneuverability tests for preparation of war. The time was 1940 which could very well been practices for Pearl Harbor. There is much speculation about this unique piece of history, but it most definitely is a prize to have in your own collection of navel Japanese commemorative artifacts. After thorough research, there is little to find about this unique and RARE vase. There is only one other one similar to this that I can find. It has intricate details which is very difficult with this heavy commemorative vase. Inscribed has the chrysanthemum flower on one side of the vase. The imperial emperor initiated the chrysanthemum as the flower of multiple symbols which would be used on every item of the military right down to the mortars. Which is exactly which is on this piece of military equipment. It also has inscribed upon it the anchor and chains which shows that it came off of a military naval aircraft carrier during WWII. Look at the pictures very carefully as they do show some rust which is considerably expected since its age.
