The British HMS Invincible (R05) light aircraft carrier, commissioned in 1980, played a pivotal role in modern naval history, particularly during the Falklands War in 1982. When Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in April 1982, HMS Invincible, along with HMS Hermes, was quickly deployed as part of the British task force sent to reclaim the territory. During the conflict, HMS Invincible served as a crucial platform for air operations, with its Sea Harriers providing air cover, conducting ground attacks, and engaging in dogfights with Argentine aircraft. The versatility and effectiveness of the Sea Harriers, operating from the Invincible’s deck, were instrumental in achieving air superiority over the Falklands. The success of HMS Invincible in the Falklands War demonstrated the strategic value of light aircraft carriers and the importance of versatile naval air power in modern conflicts. After the war, HMS Invincible continued to serve in various capacities, participating in NATO exercises and peacekeeping missions until its decommissioning in 2005. Its legacy is marked by its significant contribution to British naval history and its role in shaping modern naval warfare strategies. For model collectors and naval history enthusiasts, this 1:700 scale model offers a detailed and faithful representation of this iconic light aircraft carrier. It is an excellent addition to any collection, celebrating the legacy of a vessel that played a vital role in one of the 20th century’s notable naval conflicts.

FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION, AS IN THE PHOTO, THIS IS NOT A BOX KIT BUT IT WAS COMPLETELY SELF-BUILT, THEREFORE UNIQUE. (WOOD BASE NOT INCLUDED). HMS Eagle was an early aircraft carrier. Of the Royal Navy. During the South American dreadnought race. As the Almirante Latorre -class. Almirante Cochrane , she was laid down before World War I. Her completion was delayed by labour troubles and the possibility that she might be repurchased by Chile for reconversion into a battleship, as well as the need for comparative trials to determine the optimum layout for aircraft carriers. And later to the China Station. Spending very little time in home waters other than for periodic refits. Eagle spent the first nine months of World War II in the Indian Ocean. Searching for German commerce raiders. During the early part of the war, the Fleet Air Arm. Was desperately short of fighters. And Eagle was equipped solely with Fairey Swordfish. She was transferred to the Mediterranean in May 1940, where she escorted convoys. In July but her aircraft failed to score any hits when they attempted to torpedo Italian cruisers during the battle. Whenever Eagle was not at sea, her aircraft were disembarked and used ashore. Her aircraft sank a German blockade runner. And disabled a German oil tanker. The German submarine U-73.
